What Does “Singularity” Mean?
A technological singularity is a theorized point in time when societal, legal, technological and economic changes will greatly accelerate, creating new problems and new questions for humankind. Scientists and commentators do not entirely agree on when and how the event will take place, or even the nature of the event itself. But throughout human history, many have predicted that our current exponential growth in technology will one day reach a point beyond which we cannot predict the consequences.
This is a blog about technology. This is also a blog about law. Technology is the study of humanity’s use of its tools and knowledge. Law is, among other things, the study of humanity’s conduct and administration. So, “Singularity” seemed like a fitting name because it is a commentary on the effects of humanity’s tools on society and law, and vice versa.
